Equipment and Weapon Handling
-
A fencing mask, jacket, glove and chest protector must always be worn when fencing.
-
Weapons need to be treated with respect and must always be pointed down when around anyone not wearing a mask.
-
Wear proper shoes for fencing and ensure they are clean. Non-marking indoor court shoes are recommended.
On-strip Protocol
-
If anyone (coach, referee, fencers) calls “Halt”, or if a hazardous situation is observed, fencers on the strip must immediately stop fencing.
-
Ensure enough space between an unprotected person (e.g. referee) and a person with a weapon.
-
Report injuries to coaches immediately.
-
Stop immediately if something is wrong or if your opponent waves the unarmed hand or gives any sign of wanting to stop.
Behaviour Guidelines
Respect - Discipline - Awareness
General Behaviour
-
Respect the coaches and abide by their instructions and rules – they are there for your safety.
-
Always respect your opponent and referee. Salute the referee and your opponent before and after each bout and accept the referee’s decision.

Always display good sportsmanship. Shouting to self-motivate and cheering for your teammates is encouraged. However, acts of poor sportsmanship, such as name-calling, taunting, throwing/damaging equipment, and refusing to shake hands or bump elbows after the bout are prohibited
-
Respect and protect the venue: do not hit the walls, floors or strips with weapons. Food and beverages are not allowed on the fencing floor.
-
Respect club equipment as your own property. Throwing or otherwise damaging club equipment is unacceptable.
Fencing Etiquette
-
Fencers are expected to execute actions with control to avoid injury to themselves or others.
-
Violent or uncontrolled actions such as whipping or hard stabbing are prohibited.
